Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China, the successor to its groundbreaking original tri-fold. The new foldable model brings a reworked hinge mechanism, a fresh flagship chipset and hardware-level privacy protection, continuing to upgrade the tri-fold form factor further than any other manufacturer currently attempts.

The standout change here is the hinge of the Huawei Mate XT 2 itself. Huawei has moved to a G-shaped hinge system with a wing-like aesthetic, measuring 12.3mm when fully folded and thinning down to just 3.5mm when fully unfolded.
The design supports flexible single, dual, or triple-screen configurations, letting users physically angle the panels for privacy or split-screen task management. The phone is rated for IP58 and IP59 dust and water resistance.
The phone comes in Black, White, and Purple finishes, with gold-woven brocade detailing, a star-diamond camera housing, and a dedicated "Extraordinary" badge on the hinge.
Moreover, the outer screen is built from basalt glass that Huawei claims offers 30 times greater drop resistance and 16 times greater scratch resistance, backed by a multi-layered, impact-resistant inner display.
On the display front, the Mate XT 2 features a 10.2-inch foldable OLED main screen with a 3K (2232 x 3184) resolution, a 12.8:9 aspect ratio and a 1-90 Hz LTPO refresh rate. There's a 6.5-inch external cover screen at 2442 x 1140 resolution capable of hitting 6,500 nits of peak brightness. Both panels support 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
Powering the Huawei Mate XT 2 is the brand's new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, paired with a cross-axis graphene VC cooling system designed to lower peak gaming temperatures by 2.5°C. Huawei claims CPU performance is up 42% over the original Huawei Mate XT, with a 24% single-core boost and a 52% multi-core improvement.
Meanwhile, the Ma Liang GPU brings real-time ray tracing capable of processing 50 million lines, a 142% jump in rendering performance.
The chipset also runs a Da Vinci-based NPU powering an on-device Mixture-of-Experts multimodal AI model with 30 billion total parameters and 2 billion active parameters. The Balong baseband adds support for Tiantong satellite calls, BeiDou messaging and post-quantum cryptographic security, while a built-in ECG sensor is certified as a Class II medical device by China's NMPA.
The rear camera system is a quad-lens setup led by a 50 MP RYYB main sensor with a massive 1/1.28-inch size, a variable aperture ranging from f/1.49 to f/4.0, and 18EV of dynamic range. It's joined by a 50 MP RYYB periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS, a 40 MP RYYB ultrawide sensor and a dedicated 1.5MP multispectral colour sensor.
This setup is built around Huawei's third-generation Red Maple colour camera, which the company says improves colour reproduction by 95%. Both the internal and external front cameras use an 8 MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.
The Huawei Mate XT 2 ships with HarmonyOS 7, optimised for side-by-side multitasking across three concurrent apps, split-screen charting and a desktop-class PC application environment. The privacy edition variant also gets Huawei's "Lingdun" hardware-level privacy technology, which uses dual-pixel masking to restrict visibility to direct viewing angles only.
Rounding out the spec sheet is a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging, 16 GB of RAM paired with up to 2 TB of storage and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It also comes with M-Pen 3 stylus support, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0 LE, NFC and a USB-C 3.1 port.
The phone measures 157.2 x 77 x 12.3mm when folded and weighs 299 grams.
