The Pro Max models across any iPhone series are known to bag the bigger battery owing to their larger form factor, and this year is going to be nothing different. A leak now indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will again pack a larger battery than its predecessor.
According to leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, this year's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to feature a battery rated somewhere close to 5,000 mAh. This would make it the first iPhone to hit the 5,000 mAh mark, making it the biggest battery on an iPhone yet. The leaker has shared the battery capacities of previous Pro Max models all the way from the iPhone 11 Pro Max and here's how they compare:
- iPhone 11 Pro Max: 3,969 mAh
- iPhone 12 Pro Max: 3,687 mAh
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4,352 mAh
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323 mAh
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,422 mAh
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,676 mAh
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: ~5,000mAh
For comparison, last year's iPhone 16 Pro Max came with a 4,676 mAh battery, which was only around 250 mAh more than its predecessor – the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple has taken a cautious approach when adding bigger batteries on iPhones. The last time we witnessed a big bump in the battery department was in the iPhone 13 Pro Max which got 665 mAh more capacity than the iPhone 12 Pro Max's 3,687 mAh unit.

Since 5,000 mAh is probably not the exact number, it remains to be seen whether the iPhone 17 Pro Max will get the same treatment as the iPhone 13 Pro Max in terms of a bump. Apple itself doesn't share the battery measurements in mAh value, it only mentions the duration iPhones would last on video and audio playback. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is claimed to get up to 33 hours of video playback time. So, even a 300 mAh bump could get this number up to 35 hours on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Besides, the upcoming Pro Max model could also gain on the improvements of the next-generation Apple A19 Pro chip, which could also help expand its battery life much further. We're hopeful to get more information about the upcoming iPhones as we approach Apple's fall event later this year.
