Apple's upcoming Rise & Shine event on September 9, 2026, will carry a slightly different energy as John Ternus is expected to host it. The newly appointed CEO will be replacing Tim Cook, and while that means no more rehearsed "Good Mornings", Ternus could set his own pace at the event.
The key question remains. So, what will a Ternus-led keynote actually look like? There's no way to tell, since Apple events are pre-recorded and heavily scripted. But Ternus' previous years overseeing Apple's hardware division could give us some clues.
For starters, Ternus may come out a tad bit sharper, like he did last time during Apple's 2025 event, where he led the announcement for the iPhone Air. He could delve slightly deeper into the nitty-gritty details of the product design of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, the Apple A20 Pro chipset, Siri AI, and all the changes coming to the devices this year.
Beyond regular smartphones, Ternus also has to deal with a radical new category, i.e., foldables. If Apple decides to launch the iPhone Ultra on stage, the initial mantle of hyping up the product falls on Ternus' shoulders, and impeccable execution is needed.
Ternus also places high emphasis on "build what interests you, build what excites you, but above all else, build it in a way that aligns with your values", and cares about ethical work with enthusiasm.
The execution may remain very Apple-ey, with cameras panning across Apple Park and smooth transitions to other hardware and software executives talking about new features. Craig Federighi is expected to show up for the iOS 27 software showcase, followed by a few other prominent names from the recently updated Apple leadership.
While Tim Cook might make a brief appearance to pass the baton, this will, pretty much, be Ternus' show now. With the Apple Rise & Shine event set for September 9, 2026, it won't be too long before we see Ternus on the stage. Until then, stay tuned.
