Samsung has finally started rolling out the Android 17-based One UI 9 Beta to its last-gen Galaxy S25 series flagships. Fresh off the heels of the One UI 9 Beta 7 update for the Galaxy S26 series, the update marks the expansion of the latest software iteration to older Samsung phones.
One UI 9 Beta Update for Galaxy S25 Series Rolling Out
According to tipster Tarun Vats on X, the One UI 9 beta program has officially kicked off for Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra owners in India, the UK, and South Korea. It boasts firmware version ZZHL/DZHK, weighs a whopping 3.86 GB and brings the August 2026 security patch.
While Samsung has not published a complete roadmap, the testing pool could soon broaden to countries such as the US, Germany and Poland.
Interestingly, the beta isn't strictly limited to the mainline flagship trio. The tipster has noted that the Galaxy S25 FE is also eligible for the beta program in South Korea. Surprisingly, the update hasn't rolled out to the Galaxy S25 Edge and we don't know when that will roll out.
The official changelog itself is quite bare-bones and notes that this is the first beta build. The build should contain all the major One UI 9 features, including a smarter Now Nudge feature, a customisable Quick Settings panel, a refreshed media player experience and more.
Vats also revealed that features like Horizon lock in the camera app, the new Warranty & care menu, and Galaxy Z Fold 8's Finder are present in the build.
That said, this marks the start of what will be a pretty long-winded Beta testing period before the stable version officially rolls out. Of all the One UI 9 eligible devices, the Galaxy S26 series should get it first, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy S25 series, followed by older Samsung phones.
While the exact release timeline is currently unknown, if Samsung follows its cadence, the stable update should start rolling out in October or November 2026. For those unaware, the Samsung Galaxy S26 FE launched recently as the first S series smartphone with One UI 9 out of the box. The Galaxy S25 series will probably be the third.
Galaxy S25 series users interested in trying out One UI 9 Beta can head over to the Samsung Members app and enrol their phones on the beta program. Once done, they can simply head over to Settings -> Software update -> Download and install on an enrolled Galaxy S25 series phone to get the update.
