Summary

  • New leak suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will pack an 8-core CPU, featuring 2x prime cores and 6x performance cores.
  • It will bring the Adreno 840 GPU with 1.2 GHz frequency and scaled-down graphics, and will be based on the Snapdragon 8 Elite's GPU architecture.
  • The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 allegedly scores over 3.3 million on AnTuTu and around 10,000 points in Geekbench multi-core tests.

Qualcomm teased the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor at the Snapdragon Summit earlier this year, alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite 5. It's expected to arrive before the end of 2025 and the latest leak reveals more details about the upcoming high-end chipset for Android phones.

Relaible leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo shared a few details about the CPU configuration and GPU details of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. As per the leak, the upcoming chipset will be based on TSMC's 3nm+ process node in an 8-core configuration. It will feature 2x prime cores clocked at 3.8 GHz and 6x performance cores clocked at 3.32 GHz.

In terms of GPU, the Snapdragon chipset will equip the Adreno 840 GPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. It will be based on the same IP architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but will be scaled-down in performance.

DCS has also shared the early benchmark scores of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 with the chipset hitting the 3.3 million mark on AnTuTu. On Geekbench 6, it reportedly scores around 3,000 points in single-core and 10,000 points in multi-core tests. Moreover, the upcoming Snapdragon processor could offer high-end graphical performance in gaming, as it's claimed to score 100 FPS in Aztec 1440p benchmark.

With these details, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 could theoretically be on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in CPU performance. When it comes to GPU, it might not be able to match last year's flagship processor. Despite this, TSMC's 3NP process could bring a slightly improved thermal efficiency on the upcoming chip over the previous offering.

Besides these details, we already know that the upcoming Snapdragon processor will pack a Hexagon NPU, an AI ISP and a SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) instruction set for on-device AI. Qualcomm is expected to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 later in 2025 and the chipset will likely power the next wave of "flagship killer" phones.
