At the Snapdragon Summit 2025 edition today, Qualcomm made its highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor official. However, alongside that, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has also been confirmed and it's in fact slated to launch sooner than expected.
Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
Dr Baaziz Achour, Chief Technology Officer at Qualcomm, confirmed at the end of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 launch that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor will launch by the end of 2025. The upcoming chipset will power the next wave of "flagship killer" smartphones in 2025 and beyond.
Achour says that the new chipset will give Android OEMs more flexibility in choice when it comes to offering high-end specs at a reasonable price point.

As for the chipset's specifications, it is going to be an octa-core SoC built on the TSMC 3nm (N3P) process. Also, just like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will also bring Oryon CPU cores. Here's everything the upcoming chipset will offer:
- TSMC-built 3 nm process
- 2nd-gen Oryon CPU
- 2x Oryon V2 Phoenix L cores @ 4.32 GHz and 6x Oryon V2 Phoenix M cores @ 3.53 GHz
- Adreno 830 GPU
- Hexagon NPU
- SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) instruction set for on-device AI
- AI-ISP
That said, the Redmi K90 processor was recently tipped to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. However, we can expect smartphones like the OnePlus 15R, the upcoming Realme Neo series smartphones and more to carry the upcoming processor.
