The next-generation Vivo X500 series launch is confirmed for this month and ahead of it, the brand has confirmed the camera specifications of the standard model.

Vivo's product manager Han Boxiao confirmed on Weibo that the Vivo X500 will feature a 50 MP Sony LYT-828 main camera with a 1/1.28 inches sensor size, the same unit found inside the Vivo X300 Pro.

This is a significant change in direction, given that the Vivo X300 shipped with a custom 200 MP Samsung HPB "Thanos" main camera on a 1/1.4-inch sensor.

However, even though the camera resolution has been reduced, Boxia says that the Vivo X500 will feature the largest main camera sensor ever fitted to a standard X-series model. The main camera also gets Zeiss gimbal-level stabilisation with a CIPA 5.5 rating.

Moving on, Boxiao has revealed that the Vivo X500 will use a 64 MP Sony LYT-610 telephoto camera with APO certification, CIPA 5.5 rating and 4K @ 120 FPS video recording support. This is the same telephoto lens that the more expensive Vivo X500 Pro will use.

Vivo has also confirmed that the X500 will be compatible with the compact ZEISS Lipstick 200 telephoto extender, which attaches externally to push the zoom range considerably further. That makes the standard X500 an unusually capable option for things like concert or sports photography, where reach normally means buying the Pro model.

Aside from these, Boxiao has not revealed any other details about the Vivo X500. Leaks claim the phone will feature a 6.59-inch 1.5K OLED display, a 7,500mAh battery, 90W charging, the Dimensity 9600 processor and OriginOS 7 based on Android 17.

The Vivo X500 series will consist of the Vivo X500, Vivo X500 Pro and Vivo X500 Pro Max. We should hear the exact launch date and other details shortly, so stay tuned.
