Qualcomm's newest flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipsets are official and Xiaomi didn't waste any time claiming bragging rights. The company has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro will be the very first phone to ship with the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
The announcement came from Adam Zeng, SVP and President of Xiaomi's International Business Department, during Xiaomi's pre-launch presentation at the Snapdragon Summit 2026 event.
We also get to know that the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max and the Motorola Signature 27 are among the first phones to feature the higher-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
These details come not even a day ahead of the Xiaomi 18 Pro China launch, which is scheduled for September 23, 2026, at 4:30 PM IST.
What's New with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6
Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipsets are built on a 2nm process. According to Qualcomm, the split this year exists because some manufacturers are chasing the absolute peak of performance while others are targeting broader audiences, and Qualcomm wanted to give OEMs that choice.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 still brings meaningful generational gains with peak clock speeds beyond 5.0 GHz, along with a 13% performance increase, 37% better energy efficiency and 15% faster responsiveness over the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
It uses Qualcomm's latest Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU and introduces Adreno Neural Fusion for AI-assisted graphics rendering.
The Extreme variant adds further headroom on top, including extra NPU memory and support for advanced video codecs. However, the core Gen 6 chip is what most 2027 Android flagships are expected to ship with, considering the worsening RAM crisis.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Global Launch Confirmed
The brand has also confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will launch in global markets "later this year".
That global rollout matters because Xiaomi hasn't released a numbered Pro flagship worldwide since the Xiaomi 13 Pro in 2023. From the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Pro to the Xiaomi 17 Pro/17 Pro Max, all have remained limited to China.
With Xiaomi leading the standard and the Extreme Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 rollout, the next wave of Snapdragon-powered flagships is already taking shape.
Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series, Oppo’s Find X10 lineup and Honor’s Magic 10 Pro are also expected to join the Gen 6 lineup in the coming months.
