Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1 Tipped to Bring Several New Customisation and Optimisation Upgrades

Back in August 2025, Xiaomi launched the HyperOS 3 in China and globally. The Android 16-based update brought several new features and now, it looks like the next HyperOS 3.1 update is slated to bring even more new changes to the skin.

Tipster Tech Mukul has revealed a list of all the major new changes that are making their way to Xiaomi phones via the HyperOS 3.1 update. Aimed at a mid-cycle refresh, the Android 16-based OS skin is getting a lot of new features that the HyperOS 3.0 build lacked.

For instance, the next update is finally going to bring Google's Material 3 Expressive design language to HyperOS. When the HyperOS 3.0 update dropped, fans expressed major displeasure online, being unable to experience Android's new design change. Thankfully, that's changing with the next build.

Another area where HyperOS 3.1 is getting better is in the Stacked Layout Style in recent apps. It will bring HyperOS at par with iOS 26 where the traditional two-column grid is ditched in favour of a horizontal scroll stack.

Moreover, Xiaomi's Dynamic Island take, Xiaomi Super Island is also getting uplifted by the next update. It can finally let users decide and choose the animation effect for supported apps. The feature is said to work on a per-app basis, where different applications will have added light effects. HyperOS 3.1 will also better optimise the Super Island for a stutter-free transition experience.

In terms of homescreen customisation, the next update is said to bring a flexible drag-and-drop folder size changing. A 2x1 and 1x2 folder size grids will be avaialbe for higher app count and better accessibility.

Aside from that, the tipster has mentioned many quality of life upgrades with HyperOS 3.1. From multi-volume adjustment to Hyper AI suggestion and Bluetooth Memory, Xiaomi has a supercharged experience planned for its users.

That said, at the time of writing, we do not have any official word regarding the new upgrade. Xiaomi is currently busy upgrading every HyperOS 3.0 eligible phones to the latest software update. It could open HyperOS 3.1 beta registrations in February 2026. If so, the Xiaomi 17 series, including the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will become the first in line to receive the new software.
