Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 Reportedly Cancelled as Focus Shifts Towards Xiaomi 18 Fold

It has been close to three years since Xiaomi ditched its book-style foldables for its Mix Flip lineup. The clamshell foldable, now in its second generation, has been widely successful so far, especially in mainland China. However, for fans waiting for the Xiaomi Mix Flip 3, they might have to swallow a hard pill, as the brand has reportedly ditched the lineup altogether for book-style foldables.

Xiaomi Prioritizing Premium Book-Style Foldable in 2026

First spotted by tech publication Android Headlines, in an unrelated Digital Chat Station (DCS) post on Weibo, the tipster addressed in a comment that Xiaomi has allegedly discontinued its flip phone for 2026.

This comes as surprising news since the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 was one of the most popular Xiaomi phones in markets like China and Europe. It has always stood out amongst the sea of clamshell phones with its aggressive pricing while still retaining flagship specifications.

Even the upcoming clamshell phone was supposed to be a beefed-up offering. A previous Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 camera leak revealed a 200 MP main camera and 50 MP ultra-wide camera for the phone. It was even supposed to be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and boast around 6,000mAh battery. Now, with the Mix Flip 3 said to be cancelled, we might never see the pinnacle of flip phones from Xiaomi.

However, while fans waiting for the Mix Flip 3 will be actually disappointed, it might not be bad news after all. The primary hypothesis regarding this decision is currently being said to be the revival of Xiaomi's book-style folding phones. We recently saw a new Xiaomi 17 Fold with XIRING O3 chipset that's reportedly being prepped internally.

It is said to be a book-style folding phone with top-of-the-line hardware and Xiaomi's in-house XIRING O3 chipset. If true, this could very well launch as the Xiaomi 18 Fold and will go head-to-head with the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Oppo Find N6.

That said, at the time of writing, details regarding Xiaomi's foldable plan are currently limited. We are also not sure if the Xiaomi 18 Fold will adopt the wide foldable aspect ratio to compete closely with the Apple iPhone Fold. However, with an expected Q3 2026 launch window, we shall see more concrete details emerge in the next couple of months. So, stay tuned.
