Summary

  • In the Geekbench CPU test, the A19 Pro delivered 12% faster single-core performance than the A18 Pro.
  • Both processors have the same 6-core CPU and 6-core GPU configurations, however, the A19 Pro on the iPhone Air features five GPU cores.
  • Apple has also integrated its new C1X 5G modem into the A19 Pro, but it's only available on the iPhone Air.

Apple’s new iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max models are powered by the latest A19 Pro chipset, succeeding last year’s A18 Pro from the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. Both processors are designed for top-tier performance, but the A19 Pro takes the performance a notch higher. With Apple promising big gains in CPU, GPU, and AI performance, it’s time to see how much of an upgrade the A19 Pro really is compared to the A18 Pro. In this article, we’ve compared their Geekbench results and specifications side by side.

Apple A19 Pro vs A18 Pro: Geekbench Score

In a Geekbench listing, the A19 Pro has surfaced running on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. In the Geekbench 6.5 CPU test, the A19 Pro has scored 3,895 in single-core and 9,746 in multi-core. The peak CPU frequency of A19 Pro is 4.26GHz. In contrast, last year's A18 Pro score 3,467 in single-core and 8,550 in multi-core. Basically, the A19 Pro is around 12% faster than the A18 Pro in single-core performance and about 14% in multi-core.

Apple A19 Pro vs A18 Pro: Specs Comparison

The Apple A19 Pro is built on TSMC’s refined 3nm (N3P) process node while last year's A18 Pro is manufactured on TSMC's 2nd-gen 3nm (N3E) node. Both chipsets feature a 6-core CPU paired with a 6-core GPU. However, bear in mind that the A19 Pro on the iPhone Air has five GPU cores. By the way, the A19 Pro GPU comes with Neural Accelerators for heavy AI workloads, which are not available on the A18 Pro.

On the cellular connectivity front, Apple has included its upgraded C1X 5G modem on the iPhone Air. While it only covers Sub-6GHz 5G bands, Apple claims it's 2x faster and around 30% more efficient than the Qualcomm modem on last year's iPhone 16 Pro.

That said, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max still come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G modem, which has support for both mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G bands. For local connectivity, Apple has developed a new N1 chip which integrates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and Thread networking into the A19 Pro.
