The emoji button on the Samsung Keyboard disappears sometimes after an update and it throws a lot of people off. The good news is that you can get the emojis back on the keyboard in just a few steps. In most cases, it's hidden behind a toolbar toggle that gets turned off for some reason. So without any delay, let's begin.
Access Emojis on Samsung Keyboard
On every Samsung phone, the emoji button sits in the Samsung Keyboard toolbar. It's located at the top of the keyboard. Here's how to access it.
- Open any app where you can type to bring up the Samsung keyboard.
- Now, tap on the emoji (smiley face) icon in the top-left corner of the toolbar.
- The full emoji panel will open up. Next, you can tap on the keyboard icon to switch back to typing.

If you can't see the smiley icon at all, your toolbar is most likely turned off and the next section helps you restore it. By the way, Samsung Keyboard is one of the most customisable keyboards on Android. You can change the Samsung Keyboard background and choose to add borders or new colours in just a few steps.
Enable the Toolbar to Get Emojis on Samsung Keyboard
If you only see the typing area with no icons above it, your toolbar is turned off and that is why the emoji button is gone. Here's how to turn it back on.
- Open Settings on your Samsung phone and tap on General management.
- Now, select Samsung Keyboard settings.

- Here, scroll down and turn on Keyboard toolbar.
- Now, you will see the emoji (smiley face) icon in the top-left corner of the toolbar.

Tap on it and the full emoji panel opens up. While you are at it, you can enable dark mode on Samsung Keyboard so the emoji panel matches the rest of your setup.
How to Get Emojis on Samsung Keyboard Without the Toolbar
Some people prefer to keep the toolbar switched off to save screen space. In that case, here is how to access the emoji panel on Samsung keyboard.
- Just long-press the comma (,) key on the Samsung keyboard.
- A small pop-up menu will appear. Now, slide your finger over to the emoji symbol and release it.
- The keyboard will switch to the emoji panel. You can now insert emojis without any issue.

By the way, Google recently unveiled new 3D emojis for Android and it's likely coming to Samsung phones later this year.
Add the Emoji Button Back If It Has Disappeared
Sometimes the toolbar is turned on but the emoji icon itself is still missing on the Samsung keyboard. In such cases, the emoji icon is replaced by another shortcut like AI or translate button. Follow these steps to put the emoji button back.
- First off, tap on the three-dot menu on the right side of the toolbar.
- Here, press and hold the Emojis icon and drag it onto the toolbar. That's it.
- The emoji button will be back on Samsung keyboard's toolbar.

And that is how to get emojis on Samsung keyboard. You can also try Samsung's Good Lock app and its Keys Cafe module that lets you fully customise the Samsung Keyboard with colours, effects, layouts and more.2
