Nothing OS 4.0 Supported Devices: Which Nothing Phones Will Get Android 16

Nothing OS 4.0 will be the next big update for Nothing smartphones, and it will be based on Android 16. While there's no specific date or timeline for its release, the update is expected to come out in the next few months. If you're wondering whether your Nothing device will get the update, here's a list of all the Nothing devices that will receive the Nothing OS 4.0 update.

Nothing OS 4.0 Supported Devices List

All the Nothing devices released before the Nothing Phone (3) are eligible to receive three major Android updates. Considering that Nothing has only been in the smartphone scene for four years, this puts most of their lineup in the list of eligible devices.

The "oldest" Nothing smartphone expected to get Nothing OS 4.0 is the Nothing Phone (2). Unfortunately, the Nothing Phone (1) has already exhausted its update limit and will no longer get any new updates. That said, here are all the Nothing and CMF Phones that will get Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16.

Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to be the end of the line for Nothing Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1. The Nothing Phone (2a) series will get updates till Android 17, whereas the Nothing Phone (3a) series and CMF Phone 2 Pro would still have two major updates remaining after Nothing OS 4.0.

The Nothing Phone (3) has been promised five years of OS updates and two more years of security patches. Since it launched with Nothing OS 3.5 based on Android 15, it's yet to use its allotted updates quota.

Nothing recently opened closed-beta registrations for Nothing OS 4.0 for Phone (3) users. While the features of Nothing OS 4.0 are under wraps, we've made our own Nothing OS 4.0 wishlist with features we'd like to see.

Nothing OS 4.0 Expected Features

While we’re still foggy on the Nothing OS 4.0-specific features, Nothing is expected to add a bunch of Android 16 features. Here are all of them:

Advanced Protection mode disables a few Android features that can be exploited by bad actors.
Search in Photo picker can help you search for photos from photo library with ease.
Enhanced Predictive back gestures improves the gesture animations and makes it available across more regions of Android.
Live Updates are similar to iOS’ Live Activities, allowing apps to update notifications live to reflect the status of a ride or food order. Nothing is expected to integrate them in Phone (3)’s Glyph Matrix.
Material 3 Expressive is expected to change the UI elements across a bunch of apps, but the overall look of Nothing OS could remain the same.
Community-made Glyph Toys could make its way to Nothing Phone (3) via Nothing OS 4.0. The company already offers a Glyph Developer kit to customise the Glyph Matrix, and we could more Glyph Toys in the next update.

Nothing has already confirmed that Nothing OS 4.0 will arrive in Q3 2025. It's expected to land on the Nothing Phone (3) first, followed by Nothing Phone (3a) series, CMF Phone 2 Pro and the rest. It's still too soon to predict the exact release date for each device, but we expect all eligible Nothing phones to get the update by the end of 2025.
