Summary

  • In early Geekbench results, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivered 6% faster performance than the Apple A19 in single-core tasks.
  • And in multi-core workloads, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivers a massive 30% performance uplift.
  • The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 packs eight Oryon v3 CPU cores, while the A19 features a 6-core CPU setup.

With the launch of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and A19 processors, the rivalry between Qualcomm and Apple is reaching new levels in the mobile chip race. Qualcomm is claiming to dethrone Apple in single-core CPU performance while Apple is aiming to deliver powerful graphics performance. So to evaluate the performance gap, we have compared the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Apple A19 across Geekbench and other benchmarks.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs Apple A19: Geekbench Score

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 recently surfaced on Geekbench with impressive scores, running on the Xiaomi 17 Pro device. In the Geekbench test, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 scored 3,831 in single-core and 11,525 in multi-core. By comparison, Apple's A19 achieved 3,608 in single-core and 8,810 in multi-core.

In initial Geekbench results, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is around 6% faster than the Apple A19 in single-core tasks, and about 30% faster in multi-core workloads. This is for the first time, Qualcomm has taken a lead in single-core CPU performance, outperforming Apple, all thanks to its 3rd-gen Oryon CPU cores.

However, since the A19 has a lower peak frequency of 4.26 vs 4.60GHz on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the Apple A19 still leads in terms of performance-per-watt. In other words, Qualcomm may have the "world's fastest mobile CPU" but it also draws more power.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs Apple A19: Specs Comparison

Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Apple A19 are manufactured on TSMC's improved 3nm (N3P) process node. The 8 Elite Gen 5 packs eight CPU cores while Apple has gone with its traditional 6-core CPU setup. And to drive graphics, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 brings the Adreno 840 GPU while the A19 packs its 5-core Apple GPU.
