Apple has announced a brand-new app called Apple Games as a one-stop gaming destination. The app is currently available on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe Beta releases, and gives both players and developers a better way to serve and play games on Apple devices.
For starters, the Apple Games app comes with challenges to compete with friends. Developers with Game Centre leaderboards in place can add challenges to make it easier for players to compete and rematch if they want.

Game Overlay brings Game Centre features right into the gameplay. Players, with a few swipes, can access achievements, scores, friends activities, and more without explicitly switching to another app.
On the development front, Apple's Game Portal Toolkit 3 gives developers the ability to evaluate and profile their games. Things like the HUD can now be customized further for better onscreen information. This would help them tweak their games to offer best-in-class graphics performance.

Apple is betting big on Metal 4 as it comes with advanced graphics and ML technologies. The API which is custom-built for Apple Silicon now features MetalFX Frame Interpolation to generate an intermediate frames for higher FPS, with MetalFX Denoising taking care of real-time ray tracing and path tracing in the games that use it.
As for its official release date, the app should come preinstalled in the upcoming iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 updates later this fall.
