  • The smartphone could arrive with an A20 series chipset alongside a larger 3,500mAh battery.

The iPhone Air was a big design experiment for Apple, and its successor could address some of the compromises that came with it. A new leak has now revealed more about the upcoming iPhone Air 2, including a few interesting hardware upgrades.

According to prominent Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone Air 2 is well into development and will retain a conventional aspect ratio. Up front, it is expected to feature the same 6.55-inch 120 Hz LTPO OLED display with a 1.5K resolution.

Internally, the phone will arrive with Apple's latest A20 series chipset manufactured on TSMC's 2nm process. Additionally, as previous iPhone Air 2 battery rumours suggested, DCS says the phone will feature a larger battery.

While the exact battery capacity is unknown, many rumours point to a 3,500mAh unit. Optics-wise, the phone could be equipped with an additional 48 MP ultrawide lens alongside the main 48 MP wide snapper.

While these details are known, some of the other iPhone Air 2 specifications that have been in the headlines include its thickness.

Despite the alleged battery upgrade, the smartphone is expected to thin down to 5.2 mm. The front camera is expected to remain the same 18 MP Centre Stage unit.

There's expected to be very little change on the design front, and the overall aesthetics will be pretty much identical to the original iPhone Air. There have also been rumours about Apple launching the Air 2 as the standard iPhone 18, but we haven't heard about that in a while.

With Apple's next smartphone launch scheduled for Spring 2027, more information about the iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2 and iPhone 18e should be revealed soon. Until then, stay tuned.
