After months of leaks and teasers, the iPhone Duo is now finally official globally and in India. This marks Apple's foray into the foldable segment with the first-ever foldable iPhone, which has launched alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series as the top-of-the-line iPhone this year.
Apple iPhone Duo Specifications and Features
Starting with the design, the iPhone Duo brings a big shift to the foldable smartphone space with a passport-like form factor. Instead of a tall and narrow look, the iPhone Duo adopts a wide and short form factor when closed, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
When folded, the iPhone Duo offers a palm-friendly 5.4-inch outer display (5.36 inches when measured as a standard rectangle, since the corners are rounded).
Unfolded, the inner display measures 7.6 inches (7.58 inches as a standard rectangle). This is Apple's largest-ever iPhone display, and 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max's screen.
Unlike earlier rumours suggesting a 4:3, iPad mini-style inner panel, both displays actually share the same aspect ratio, so content scales proportionally between them instead of getting cropped or letterboxed.
Both panels are Super Retina XDR OLEDs with ProMotion, Always-On, and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The inner display also gets a nano-texture matte finish that cuts glare and helps hide the crease.
Durability-wise, Apple is using Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer display, which the company claims is 3x more scratch-resistant than the previous generation. There's no "Ceramic Shield 3" here.
The chassis is built entirely from grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish (no aluminium is involved) and the hinge cover uses a 3D-printed titanium piece with a contrasting micro-blasted texture.
Apple hasn't published exact thickness figures, but says the iPhone Duo is the thinnest iPhone ever when unfolded. The whole thing is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. Touch ID is built into the side button, letting you unlock the phone open or closed, with Apple Watch unlock also supported.
For performance, the iPhone Duo ships with Apple's latest 2nm A20 Pro processor, the same as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This is paired with a new vapour-chamber cooling system Apple says delivers up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. Storage tops out at 2 TB, with 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB options in between.
iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27 out of the box, reworked specifically for the foldable form factor. It features a side-mounted Dock and status bar, Split View multitasking for running two apps side by side and a heavily upgraded StandBy mode.
It also debuts with the new Siri AI assistant (rolling out in beta) and Apple Intelligence features layered throughout.
Moving on, cameras are where things get interesting for the iPhone Duo. The iPhone Duo features a dual-lens rear setup: a 48 MP Fusion Main camera and a 48 MP Fusion Ultra Wide (the same Ultra Wide sensor used on the iPhone 18 Pro).
There isn't a separate dedicated telephoto lens, but the main camera has an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto built into the same sensor, so you're not entirely without zoom.
The rear camera also supports 4K @ 120 FPS Dolby Vision recording and Cinematic effects at up to 60 FPS.
There's a Centre Stage camera hidden beneath the inner display, plus fold-specific tricks like Smart Take (auto-captures when it detects you're posed), Duo Preview (live preview on the outer screen so subjects can check their framing), Kid Cue (Peanuts animations to grab kids' attention for photos), and Duo FaceTime (lets a second person join a call using the outer display).
In terms of battery, Apple's claims backup that's lower than "48 hours flat." The iPhone Duo is rated for up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, 44 hours on the outer display, and 24 hours with mixed use of both screens.
Apple also says it can hit 50% in about 20 minutes wired, or 50% in about 30 minutes wirelessly with a MagSafe or Qi2 charger.
Other than that, the iPhone Duo features stereo speakers, a UWB chip with spatial awareness, GPS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, a new custom-made Apple N2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chipset and Apple's C2 5G modem for better network connectivity and 5G mmWave support.
