Ahead of Apple's "Surprise and Shine" launch event for the iPhone 18 Pro series and the first foldable iPhone, the Cupertino brand has released a new iOS 26.6.2 update for iPhones. While the new build doesn't bring anything new to the table, it does quietly ship a handful of security-focused changes and under-the-hood refinements to eligible iPhones.
iOS 26.6.2 Update for iPhones: What's New?
The official release note from Apple for iOS 26.6.2 reads: "This update fixes an issue that prevents downloading a software update over a cellular connection."
This means that the new update has patched an issue that was causing Apple iPhones to refuse to download and install software packages while on a cellular network.
This is important since the stable iOS 27 update is expected to arrive next week, bringing public access to Siri AI, the redesigned Photos and Camera apps and the rest of the update Apple detailed at WWDC 2026.
If this bug had gone unfixed, anyone on the iOS 26.6.1 update trying to install iOS 27 without Wi-Fi would not have been able to. Apple releasing the fix a week ahead gives most iPhones time to receive it before the bigger update lands.
Also, this is the last release before the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Ultra go official in a few hours today, that is, September 9, 2026, at 10:30 PM IST.
That said, the iOS 26.6.2 update is currently rolling out for those who are on the iPhone 11 or newer iPhones.
