Apple's September 9 Surprise and Shine launch event is barely a few hours away and ahead of it, a new report suggests that the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 smartwatches could feature a new Readiness app.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly going to introduce a new Readiness app with the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Watch Ultra 4. He describes it as a comprehensive, data-driven health score app, positioned as a variant of the existing Vitals app.

The app is reportedly built specifically to compete with Whoop and Oura, and the concept comes from the recovery-tracking category used by these screenless fitness trackers.
Oura's smart rings produce a daily Readiness Score from 0 to 100, indicating how prepared the body is for the day ahead, and Whoop works on a similar principle on its Whoop band. The Vitals app was introduced with the watchOS 11 update.
The app already pulls together average heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature and sleep duration from the previous night. A Readiness app built on those same metrics will help users get a quantitative score of how recovered they are.

Gurman's latest report on a Readiness app falls in line with a previous report that claimed Always-On Heart Rate Tracking with Apple Watch Series 12.
Since Recovery scores depend on uninterrupted heart rate data, particularly overnight, the ability of the Apple Watch to continuously measure and monitor vitals will be key to preparing a Readiness score.
That said, Gurman has reiterated that neither the Series 12 nor the Ultra 4 will bring major design changes over the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. This year's upgrades are more inclined towards health and wellness, rather than a design overhaul.
We will know for sure when the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 go official today, that is, September 9, 2026, at 10:30 PM IST. So, stay tuned.
