Ahead of the Pixel 11 launch, Google appears to have accidentally revealed both the official name and one of the headline features of its new LED notification system. A fresh app teardown suggests the feature previously known as Pixel Glow could debut as HiLight, with support for custom colours for favourite contacts.
Unearthed first by 9to5Google in the latest version of the Google Contacts app, 4.85, the feature is internally referred to as "glow". The HiLight feature lets you assign a distinct colour to specific favourite contacts.
When these selected contacts call, the Pixel Glow lights at the back of the device will illuminate with the chosen hue.
The code strings spotted by the source detail the user interface prompts for this functionality. These include an option to "configure HiLight for favourite callers", "Assign a custom glow colour" and "Add a notification colour".
Google teased Pixel Glow on Pixel 11 Pro, and we could see that the glow LED had support for a wide range of RGB colourways. At the same time, users will have a vibrant spectrum to choose from when setting up their preferred contacts.
The available HiLight options will be limited to Blue, Orange, Teal, Cyan, Pink, White, Green, Purple and Yellow. Besides calls, rumours suggest the LED's usage can extend to Gemini, Google apps, messages and more.
For those unaware, the Google Pixel 11 series launch date is scheduled for August 12, 2026. The brand is also expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 5 and a supposed Apple AirTag competitor, Pixel Tag, during the event.
If all goes well, Google Pixel 11 series pre-orders are expected to start on August 12, 2026. The smartphones are expected to pack the latest Tensor G6, a slightly larger battery and new camera sensors. More information should be revealed as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned.
