Google is adding a new way to capture important moments without forcing you to spend them staring at your phone with the newly launched Pixel 11 series. Magic Capture uses Gemini AI to record a short video of an event and automatically pick out the best moments as full-quality photos.
How Pixel 11's Magic Capture Feature Works
Magic Capture is built into the Pixel Camera app and records a two-minute video when activated. Once the recording is complete, Google's Gemini AI analyses the footage to identify the best moments and automatically turns them into photos.
The feature can look for moments with good composition, facial expressions and interesting action. This makes it useful for concerts, birthday parties, school performances and sporting events where the right moment can be difficult to capture manually.
The original video is also saved alongside the selected photos. Google says the extracted images aren't simply screenshots from the video, with Magic Capture using AI to produce higher-quality photos from the video.
