After the Huawei Pura X Max launched this year as the world's first wide foldable, it appears that Huawei's ex-sub-brand Honor could also embrace the wide-screen foldable form factor. With Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple's first foldable iPhone already expected to be embracing the new format, competition is certainly heating up in the segment.

Honor's Wide Foldable Moves up in Development Stage

A new Weibo post from credible tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has revealed that the first-ever wide-screen foldable phone from Honor is "under accelerated development" and has reportedly entered the final refinement process stage. However, the name of the foldable is currently under wraps.

This is an important product timeline shift since brands usually refine their next-gen iterations close to completion and this also hints at a ready-for-launch product pathway. This means that the Honor wide foldable could launch in the coming months, as a successor to the Honor Magic V6.

As far as specs go, the latest leak claims that the foldable carries a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.5-inch cover screen. This is similar to what the display specs of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Fold are expected to be.

In terms of cameras, Honor is planning to add a full-fledged flagship camera system to the phone, complete with a 200 MP main camera and a periscope telephoto lens.

Moreover, with an alleged 7,000mAh battery capacity, the upcoming foldable from Honor could become the only wide-screen foldable to manage such a huge capacity upgrade.

For comparison, the Huawei Pura X Max features a 5,300mAh capacity, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Ultra are expected to offer 5,000mAh and 5,400mAh capacities, respectively. Even when it comes to regular foldables, only the Vivo X Fold 6 offers that capacity.

That said, at the time of writing, there is no other detail available for the first wide foldable from Honor. It is unclear if this is a standalone product or will be branded as the Honor Magic V7, the successor to the Honor Magic V6. However, we will know for sure once official teasers begin, so stay tuned.
