After the triple-folding Huawei Mate XT, the brand is pushing the boundaries of foldable smartphones yet again. The Chinese tech giant has finally launched the Huawei Pura X Max as the world's first wide book-style foldable, which is a significant departure from the tall, narrow designs we've seen so far. With a more practical aspect ratio, flagship internals and a clear focus on productivity, the Pura X Max redefines how foldables are used in everyday life while also beating rivals like Samsung and Apple to this form factor.
Huawei Pura X Max Specifications and Features
At the heart of the Huawei Pura X Max is its standout wide, book-style form factor with a roughly 16:10 aspect ratio. Unlike conventional foldables, this form factor offers a more phablet-like experience, making it better suited for multitasking, reading and watching content.
On the outside, the foldable features a 5.4-inch OLED cover screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, offering a much more usable canvas than traditional foldables. This outer screen is a powerhouse in its own right, boasting a peak brightness of 3,500 nits and a 1-120 Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, all protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass.

When unfolded, the Huawei Pura X Max reveals a massive 7.7-inch LTPO AMOLED inner screen with 3,000 nits of peak brightness and a 2,584 x 1,828 pixels resolution, effectively turning the phone into a high-end mini tablet.
Under the hood, Huawei's latest foldable phone is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. For those unaware, it's slightly more powerful than the Kirin 9030S powering the Huawei Pura 90 Pro and Pura 90 Pro Max. The Kirin 9030 Pro offers a 25% boost in CPU performance and a massive 70% upgrade in NPU capabilities compared to the previous Kirin 9020 SoC. This processing power is essential for the Pura X Max's advanced AI features, which run on HarmonyOS 6.1.

The software suite includes the "Xiaoyi Smart Brain" and a companion AI system that integrates deeply with third-party apps for real-time help, note-taking and photo editing. To handle the unique form factor, Huawei utilised a "Basalt Waterdrop Hinge" which increases screen real estate by 16% and improves drop resistance by 33%.
Imaging remains a core pillar of the Huawei Pura X Max with its XMAGE-backed 50 MP main sensor with a variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0) and OIS, a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and a 12.5 MP ultra-wide camera. The flagship foldable also supports the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus, which includes an "air mouse" button and gesture recognition, making it a productivity powerhouse.

All of this is sustained by a 5,300mAh battery supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, housed in a chassis that is remarkably thin at just 5.2mm when unfolded.

With the Huawei Pura X Max, the brand shows off its foldable power in style and proves that there's still plenty of room for innovation in the segment. For those who find the current foldables too cramped, the "wide" Huawei Pura X Max could finally be it. Looks like Samsung and Apple have a serious competitor to beat.
