It has only been a few months since the Honor Magic 8 series dropped and we are already hearing rumours about the upcoming Honor Magic 9 lineup. Slated to arrive by the end of 2026, it appears that the brand is planning a major reshuffle to bring better product differentiation to the series.
Honor Magic 9 Series Reportedly Drops The "Pro Air" Variant
As per prolific tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo, Honor is reportedly dropping the Honor Magic 8 Pro Air successor, as the 6.4-inch small screen variant is said to be "no longer defined by the Air designation". This implies that the upcoming lineup will not include any phone with the "Magic 9 Pro Air" naming.
However, that doesn't mean the product in itself is scrapped. Based on the translated post, it seems like the standard Honor Magic 9 will take the place of what would have been the Magic 9 Pro Air.
Previous Honor Magic 9 display leaks have already hinted at a compact 6.3-inch flat OLED LTPO panel, compared to the 6.59-inch display of the Honor Magic 8.

Now, it increasingly looks like the brand could settle at 6.4 inches as the final display size for the Magic 9, making it the actual successor of the Magic 8 Pro Air. While it is unclear why Honor is doing this, we believe it is for better product positioning and differentiation.
Reports suggest that there is going to be an Honor Magic 9 Pro Max in the mix, as a top-of-the-line offering in the lineup. Hence, having four phones with two of them carrying the "Pro" moniker might end up confusing consumers.

So, for the sake of simplicity, the Magic 9 lineup could include just the Honor Magic 9, Magic 9 Pro and the Magic 9 Pro Max. But, do note that this is a mere speculation and is entirely based on our understanding of the translated text.
Apart from this, the tipster has also claimed that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, feature a 200 MP main camera and pack an 8,000mAh battery. In addition, the phone could flaunt 2D facial recognition and ARRI video recording capability.
Given that the Honor Magic 8 series launched in October 2025, there is a good chance the Magic 9 lineup will also follow a similar launch timeline this year. Hence, it is best to wait for an official confirmation before speculating further.
