Instagram has rolled out a long-requested feature that finally allows users to edit their comments after posting, eliminating the need to delete and report for simple mistakes. The update is now being rolled out globally, bringing the social media platform in line with other apps that already offer post-editing tools for comments.
Instagram Comment Editing - How Does It Work?
The new feature lets users edit a comment within 15 minutes of posting it, offering enough time to fix typos, tweak wording or rethink a reply. During this window, users can make multiple edits, making the experience more flexible, especially for creators and active commenters.

To edit the comment, users simply need to tap on their comment and select the "Edit" option, after which they can modify and save changes directly. Once updated, the comment will display an "Edited" label, much like an edited text.
However, the catch is that after those 15 long minutes, users will no longer be able to edit their comments. Additionally, unlike some platforms, Instagram does not provide an edit history, meaning previous versions of the comment are not visible once changes are made.
That said, the Instagram comments edit feature is a small but meaningful update which aims to improve engagement on the platform, especially by reducing errors and impulsive comments.
In case you're unable to edit Instagram comments, simply head over to the Google Play Store or App Store and update the app. Once you do so, you will see the new Edit option show up beside the Reply and See translation options.
However, with Instagram Plus reportedly under development, it remains to be seen if meaningful features like Instagram comments editing are tucked under the paywall in the future.
