Apple's most radical iPhone redesign in years is reportedly coming in 2027 with the 20th anniversary iPhone models. A new leak claims that the Cupertino giant is testing a nearly 7-inch display for the top-end 2027 iPhone 20 Pro Max, making it the biggest iPhone display to date.
iPhone 20 Pro Max Could Feature a 7-Inch Display
According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo, Apple is internally testing an iPhone display size which measures 6.96 inches and is expected to be marketed as a 7-inch panel. This screen size is allegedly being tested for the top-end model of the 20th Anniversary iPhone, which is also expected to be called the iPhone 20 Pro Max.
If true, this will make the iPhone 20 Pro Max the largest-display iPhone to date. For reference, the current generation iPhone 17 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch OLED panel. However, it is not marketed as a 7-inch iPhone. The only true 7-inch phone in the market right now is the recently launched Redmi Note 17.
For context, last month, reports emerged stating Apple is prepping two 20th Anniversary iPhone models for launch in 2027. These are expected to launch as successors to the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, expected to go official in September 2026.
While there is no confirmation that the 2027 iPhone models will be called iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max, leakers claim Apple might skip the "iPhone 19" branding to celebrate 20 years of iPhones.

While the leak from DCS is the first time we are hearing about Apple testing a 7-inch iPhone, we have heard other details about the 20th Anniversary iPhone display. Leaks suggest the 20th anniversary iPhone displays will be a micro-curved OLED, making them the first generation of Apple iPhones to incorporate a bezel-less design.
They are said to use a magnesium-silver (MgAg) alloy in the cathode layer, which is expected to cause image distortion and brightness loss in the areas where the OLED curves.
However, Apple is also planning a two-stage micro-curved OLED rollout for the 20th anniversary iPhones. As per this rollout strategy, in 2028, the Cupertino brand will reportedly transition to indium zinc oxide (IZO) as the cathode material, which is expected to address both issues with the first-gen models.
