Apple's most radical iPhone redesign in years is reportedly coming in 2027 with the 20th anniversary iPhone. While there isn't any concrete evidence of the same, it is said to debut with a new kind of "micro-curved", almost bezel-less display. Now, a new leak suggests that the 20th anniversary iPhone will, in fact, come in two display sizes.
Apple Could Launch Two 20th Anniversary iPhone Models
A new report from Mark Gurman via Bloomberg states that Apple has not one, but two 20th Anniversary iPhone models in the pipeline, for launch in 2027. The Cupertino brand will differentiate the two based on display sizes, in the same way the "Pro" and "Pro Max" models are segregated. Early speculations claim that the 2027 models will be the same in size as the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Since both phones are said to be exactly the same as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, we can expect the 20th anniversary iPhone to launch with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes. This is an interesting development since previous leaks claimed that the 20th anniversary iPhone would be a distinct commemorative model on its own, outside the usual iPhone refresh cycle.

However, if Apple plans to launch two variants of it, there is a high chance the iPhone 19 Pro and iPhone 19 Pro Max will launch as the two 20th anniversary iPhones. It is unclear if they will be called something else or not, but this makes sense, since it will not hinder the usual iPhone refresh cycle. Moreover, this strategy could allow Apple to mark the beginning of new iPhone designs.
Especially since leaks suggest the 20th anniversary iPhone displays will be a micro-curved OLED, they will become the first generation of Apple iPhones to incorporate a bezel-less design. They are said to use a magnesium-silver (MgAg) alloy in the cathode layer, which is expected to cause image distortion and brightness loss in the areas where the OLED curves.
However, Apple is also planning a two-stage micro-curved OLED rollout for the 20th anniversary iPhones. As per this rollout strategy, in 2028, the Cupertino brand will reportedly transition to indium zinc oxide (IZO) as the cathode material, which is expected to address both issues with the first-gen models.
That said, Gurman's report also mentions that the 20th anniversary iPhones will launch alongside the second-generation iPhone Fold, meaning that Apple is planning a yearly refresh cycle of its foldable. However, we will have to wait and see how 2027 pans out since all three phones are expected to debut in September 2027. So, stay tuned.
