Samsung is reportedly preparing to shuffle things for its upcoming premium foldable lineup. After months of speculation around the Wide foldable form factor, the new leaks indicate the brand could be leaning toward restructuring its naming conventions for 2026, with a total of two book-style foldables in the series.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Will Arrive with Wide Form Factor
According to the latest reports from SamMobile, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 moniker could be taken by the previously leaked Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide foldable form factor. Meanwhile, the new Ultra badge will be slapped onto the direct successor of last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7.

This restructuring feels close to what Samsung had originally planned for the Galaxy S26 series. For those unaware, early rumours about the Galaxy S26 series suggested Samsung renaming the standard Galaxy S26 to the Galaxy S26 Pro and replacing the Galaxy S26+ with the Galaxy S26 Edge. Well, that didn't go through, though.
Considering Samsung intends to make this ultra-huge change, the rumours around Galaxy S27 name change are starting to hold a bit of weight. While the specifications of any of these phones are mostly unknown, Samsung has clearly had enough of its monotonous smartphone names.

While we don't have enough information about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a few early leaks suggested a 5,000mAh battery and a 50 MP ultrawide lens with the same 45W charging. The Z Fold 8 (previously Wide) could directly compete with Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, featuring a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch outer display. It will reportedly miss out on Samsung's Privacy Display, though.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could stick to the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. The latter is expected to arrive with a 50 MP main and a 50 MP ultrawide snapper as well. A Z Fold Wide case leak (now Z Fold 8) showed us how the phone looks, but the Z Fold 8 Ultra should look like Samsung's usual foldable smartphones.
Samsung is expected to unveil the new foldables at the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which is rumoured to take place on July 22, 2026. With less than two months to go, more information about the same should be revealed as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned.
