For the first time since the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung could reportedly abandon its familiar three-tier flagship lineup. This was expected to happen with the Galaxy S26 series, which the brand later decided not to pursue. However, the upcoming Galaxy S27 series could introduce a new Pro variant to the mix.
Samsung to introduce Galaxy S27 Pro in 2027
According to Korean publication ETNews, Samsung could introduce the Galaxy S27 Pro, in addition to the standard Galaxy S27, S27+ and S27 Ultra. The Ultra will remain the top-of-the-line offering, while the "Pro" variant will bridge the gap between the Plus and Ultra variants.

As per prominent tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Pro will effectively act as an "Ultra-lite" offering. While the phone's dimensions and screen size are still under wraps, the Pro model is expected to inherit most of Galaxy S27 Ultra's specs but without an S Pen.
This could include Samsung's latest Privacy Display, which was absent in the standard Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ smartphones. Besides, industry insiders suggest another reason behind this expansion is Apple's four-phone lineup, which includes the standard iPhone, Pro, Pro Max and now the Air.

To reiterate, Samsung was expected to carry out this operation with the Galaxy S26 series. Initial rumours of the smartphones pointed at a Pro variant, with reports about the brand ditching the Plus variant for the Galaxy S26 Edge. The plan did not go through as the Galaxy S25 Edge posted poor sales figures.
This four-tier strategy also mirrors Samsung's aggressive expansion in the foldable market. Alongside its bar phones, Samsung is also reportedly planning to add a third foldable smartphone to its lineup called the Galaxy Z Wide Fold.
This will compete with Apple's upcoming iPhone Fold's form factor, which will reportedly arrive with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The new Galaxy foldables were spotted on BIS, hinting at the official launch getting closer by the day. More information about the Galaxy S27 series should be revealed as we inch closer to launch next year, so stay tuned.
