Foldables in 2026 are going wide and Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is easily one of the most anticipated devices in the category. It is expected to launch ahead of the iPhone Fold next month and has now managed to land at the BIS certification website, indicating its India launch is on track.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Listed on BIS
As per the BIS listing spotted by tipster Sanju Choudhary (@saaaanjjjuuu on X), the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide has appeared with the model number SM-D647B. The listing is dated June 5, 2026, and while the website doesn't disclose any of the phone's specifications, its presence on the BIS listing indicates that it will make it to the country.
For those unaware, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the official governing body responsible for standardising, marking and quality certifying goods before they are officially introduced in the Indian market. Every smartphone or tech product that launches in the country has to pass BIS certification before it goes official.

Hence, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide landing on the BIS website means Samsung is clearing all the official sale hurdles before launching its first-ever passport-style folding phone. Based on the current leaks, it is shaping up to be an interesting product.
A recent Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide weight leak hinted at it being the lightest folding phone ever at just 201 grams. It is expected to be 14 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and 28 grams lighter than the new Huawei Pura X Max. This will not affect the phone's battery capacity, which is said to be 4,800mAh with 45W fast charging support.

As for the rest, the phone is said to sport a 7.6-inch folding display and a compact 5.4-inch cover screen and it was recently confirmed when the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide real-life usage images broke the internet. It is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and feature LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. There could also be a dual camera setup at the back with a 50 MP main and 50 MP ultra-wide cameras.
Also, it looks like Samsung might go with a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide name change as it could be simply called the "Galaxy Z Fold 8" and the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 being renamed to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
That said, we will know for sure once official details are out for the smartphone. It is expected to debut at the July 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event. So, stay tuned.
