Samsung's Upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Could Be the Lighest Fold in Existence

It looks like while Samsung is planning to keep the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide thin and lightweight, it is not going to bring a major battery capacity trade off, compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7

Foldables are heading into a new phase and it's all about the new wide form factor, which could become the next big thing. With the Huawei Pura X Max launched in China as the world's first wide foldable, all eyes are now on Samsung as it appears to be next in line. Fresh leaks have surfaced, giving us an idea as to how much the Galaxy Z Fold Wide will weigh and it is pretty impressive.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Weight Tipped to Be Under 210 Grams

A new X post made by reliable tipster Ice Universe has revealed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will weight just 201 grams. If true, this will be impressive considering the fact that the phone is expected to be a tad bit thicker at 4.5mm compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is 4.2mm thick. However, the Z Fold 8 Wide will be almost 14 grams lighter than the Fold 7.

What makes this even more impressive is the fact that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will also be a whopping 28 grams lighter than the Huawei Pura X Max which weighs at 229 grams. This is actually remarkable considering the fact that Samsung is expected to use an aluminium frame for the Fold 8 Wide, instead of titanium which is lighter and what the Galaxy S25 Edge uses to achieve its 163 grams weight.

However, it is important to note that a more lightweight and thin design also means a reduced battery capacity. We have seen the same true with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy S25 Edge. Even the iPhone Air had to trade off a bigger battery for a thin and lightweight design.

However, surprisingly, Ice Universe claims that the phone will feature a 4,800mAh battery with 45W fast charging. While it is lower than the 5,300mAh battery of the Pura X Max, it is 400mAh higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 7's 4,400mAh capacity.

The tipster has also mentioned a new 50 MP main camera for the phone which can natively support 24 MP mode without the need of Camera Assist. As for the passport-like design, it is all but confirmed since the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide real-life usage was recently spotted in South Korea, which hints at a 7.6-inch folding display and a compact 5.4-inch cover screen.

It is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and feature LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. Also, it looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide name change is  on the cards and it could be simply known as the "Galaxy Z Fold 8" and the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 could be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

That said, we will know for sure once official details are out for the smartphone. It is expected to be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 2026. This time we could see three folding phones launch - Galaxy Z Fold 8 (aka Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide), Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (Galaxy Z Fold 7 successor).
