After much anticipation, Vivo has officially locked in September 21, 2026, as the launch date of its upcoming Vivo X500 series in China. Announced during the brand's Creator's Festival, Vivo also revealed a handful of upgrades coming to the Vivo X500 series cameras.

Vivo X500 Photo and Video Upgrades Detailed

Images shared by Vivo's Product Manager, Han Boxiao, on Weibo reveal the core camera upgrades coming to the Vivo X500 series. Starting with the highlight, which Vivo calls the "BlueImage Light Guard 900 main sensor", it will help the cameras perform better in challenging lighting conditions.

Besides, Vivo is pairing this with its proprietary V3+ chipset and its customised VCS 4.0 technology, which is expected to help cut down on digital noise. The new architecture also pushes a staggering 17 stops of dynamic range using TCG-HDR tech. In layman's terms, it should help retain details from blown-out highlights and crushed shadows much better.

The photos also reveal that the X500 series will feature better handheld stability, thanks to CIPA 5.0-level OIS, which should help eliminate motion blur. In terms of video, the Vivo X500 series will use AI-assisted scene composition and intelligent retouching.

Additionally, the flagships will be capable of recording at up to 4K 120 fps with support for Dolby Vision and 10-bit HDR. Furthermore, there will also be support for 10-bit 4:2:2 Log recording. ACES workflow integration and a dedicated 4K 240 fps slo-mo mode. Lastly, the phones will also get 8K and 4K Live Photos support.

For those unaware, the Vivo X500 series is expected to consist of the standard Vivo X500, Vivo X500 Pro and Vivo X500 Pro Max. While the official information doesn't include other hardware specs, previous Vivo X500 series leaks suggest the Pro Max could be the only smartphone with a 200 MP telephoto snapper.

The standard and Pro models could stick to more modest 64 MP telephoto and 50 MP main cameras. Rumours point toward the standard X500 featuring the last-gen Dimensity 9500 chipset, while the Pro and Pro Max could get the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro.

With the September 21, 2026 launch date set in stone, more concrete information about the Vivo X500 series should drop very soon. Until then, stay tuned.
