Vodafone Idea (Vi) recently got a new logo, with Shah Rukh Khan as the face of its refreshed identity. Now, as part of its new identity, the telecom operator is making its international roaming a free, built-in benefit on several of its prepaid, postpaid and enterprise recharge plans in India.
Vi Free International Roaming Benefits
Eligible Vi customers can use their Indian number in over 170 countries without buying a separate roaming pack to enjoy free international roaming. Depending on the plan, users will be able to use these benefits for up to three international trips per year.
International roaming benefits will vary by plan and they will cover International data, outgoing calling minutes, calls and SMS and travel validity. Vi says this can save customers up to Rs 9,000 a year, depending on the plan and how much they use it.
However, the telecom operator has not shared the exact data and calling limits for each plan yet.
The main benefit is simple. You don't need to buy a local SIM or a travel eSIM, and you won't miss OTPs from your bank while you're abroad. You also won't need to rely on public Wi-Fi, which is often unsafe.
As mentioned, the international roaming benefit will be available on select postpaid, prepaid, and enterprise plans as follows:

The eligible postpaid plans include both individual and family options. Rentals vary by circle, which is why some plans have two prices. On family plans, both the primary user and the free secondary members get their own roaming benefits.
For prepaid users, Vi says the benefit comes with its annual unlimited data plans. However, the operator has not named the exact recharge packs yet.

Customers looking to avail the free roaming benefits need to do the following:
- Open the Vi App or visit the Vi website.
- Look for the "Roam Free" option.
- Check if the country you're travelling to is covered, and see Vi's roaming partner there.

Do note that once the free roaming validity runs out, users can either keep using Vi's Always On feature or buy a regular international roaming pack.
