Is Apple Intelligence Available in India?
Yes, Apple Intelligence is now officially available in India, but that was not the case on its release. Apple Intelligence arrived globally with the iOS 18.1 update in October 2024. However, it was limited to select regions and only supported English (US) at launch.
Support for India came with the iOS 18.4 release on March 31, 2025, for all Apple Intelligence-supported devices. This was a significant update because users could finally switch to the English (India) language to enjoy Apple Intelligence features in India, like Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, improved Siri and ChatGPT integration.
At the time of writing, Apple's AI suite isn't available in regional Indian languages. However, Apple lets you talk to the improved Siri using English mixed with Hindi, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil or Telugu.
Apple Intelligence Hardware Requirements
Apple Intelligence relies heavily on your iPhone's hardware, as it processes most of its features directly on the device. This limitation is due to Apple's policy regarding data privacy. This approach also requires a powerful neural engine, more memory and faster bandwidth. So, here are all the Apple Intelligence hardware requirements:
- Apple A17 Pro Bionic or newer chipset
- At least 8 GB of RAM
That is why older devices like the iPhone 15, which came with the A16 Bionic, didn't meet this requirement and thus did not receive Apple Intelligence support.
Is Apple Intelligence Free?
Yes, Apple Intelligence is completely free to use. If you have an Apple Intelligence eligible device, then you can enjoy most features without any additional cost or separate subscription.
However, if you want to use advanced ChatGPT features like premium models, then you will have to sign in to your ChatGPT account and buy its subscription separately. That said, basic ChatGPT features will be free to use via Apple Intelligence.
How to Enable Apple Intelligence on Your iPhone
Apple Intelligence is enabled by default on all eligible iPhones running iOS 18.4 or newer versions. In case you have turned off Apple Intelligence, here's how you can turn it back on:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and select Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Now, turn on the Apple Intelligence toggle at the top.

Once enabled, all the features will become available to use. So, that is all there is you need to know about Apple Intelligence eligible devices in India. Many users don't know about this capability, so if you have just bought yourself a new iPhone and stumble upon this guide, then go ahead and try it out.
