  • After signing up, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select iOS 27 Public Beta.
  • iOS 17 Public Beta is still in the testing phase, so it's best to install on a secondary device rather than your main iPhone.

Apple has released iOS 27 public beta, and it is available for all supported devices that are promised to receive the next big update this September. But if you want to try out all the new and exciting features coming with iOS 27, like the new Siri AI, improved Apple Intelligence features, and enhanced performance, then here's how to download the iOS 27 public beta in a few easy-to-follow steps.

Before You Install iOS 27 Public Beta

The public beta is not yet the finished iOS 27 update and has caveats, including bugs and other issues that Apple still needs to iron out. We recommend you do a little preparation before moving ahead.

  • Check if your iPhone is compatible: Make sure you have an iOS 27-eligible device, such as the iPhone 11 or newer iPhone 17 series. If your iPhone is running iOS 26, it can run the iOS 27 public beta.
  • Back up your iPhone: It is important to back up your iPhone in case anything goes wrong while updating to the iOS 27 public beta. Simply go to Settings > your name > iCloud > iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now.
  • Don't install it on your primary phone: Beta updates can affect your iPhone's battery health, and banking apps may not work either. They also have a chance of crashing apps. So, I would recommend not installing it on your main iPhone if you can avoid it.

Once you are up and running the latest public beta, make sure to try out these best features of the iOS 27 update.

  • New Siri AI: iOS 27 introduces the new Siri AI. It can remember context from previous questions, has on-screen awareness and can pull context from Mail, Messages, Photos and Calendar apps. It also gets its own standalone app to track all your conversations with it.
  • Describe a Shortcut: Apple has also revamped Shortcuts in a big way on iOS 27 by introducing the new Describe a Shortcut feature. It builds automations by just typing what you want in plain language, and Apple Intelligence assembles the shortcut for you. Describe how a Shortcut has made creating shortcuts easier than before.
  • New Photo Editing Tools: The Photos app gets two new AI editing options, starting with the Reframe tool, which lets you shift the camera angle of a photo after it has been taken. Then there is Extend, which fills in content in the image, and the upgraded Clean Up tools, which handle far more complex object removal.
  • Siri in the Camera App: Siri has also replaced visual intelligence in the Camera app, allowing you to directly take a picture and ask Siri about it. It can also scan and display the nutritional value of food items.
  • Image Playground Wallpapers: Image Playground now generates natural-looking images, and it can also create wallpapers for your iPhone

How to Remove the iOS 27 Public Beta

If you are running into issues with the iOS 27 public beta, then there are 2 things you can do:

You can stop receiving future beta updates while staying on the current version. To do this, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select Off. Your iPhone will then update to the final release of iOS 27 when it comes out in September.

To go back to iOS 26, you will need to reset your iPhone and restore it from a backup made before you installed the beta. This is why taking a backup matters so much.
