Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The company claims the new 8 Elite Gen 5 processor is the fastest mobile SoC in the world, featuring new Oryon v3 CPU cores and the upgraded Adreno 840 GPU. But how much of an improvement does the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 bring over last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite? To find out, we have compared their Geekbench and AnTuTu benchmark scores.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite: Geekbench Score
Geekbench 6 CPU | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (Leaked) | Snapdragon 8 Elite |
Single-core | 3,831 | 3,033 |
Multi-core | 11,525 | 9,271 |
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 recently appeared on Geekbench, powering the Xiaomi 17 Pro device. In the leaked Geekbench listing, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 scored an impressive 3,831 points in single-core tasks and 11,525 in multi-core tasks.
On the other hand, last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite running on our Realme GT 7 Pro unit achieved 3,033 in single-core and 9,271 in multi-core. In terms of CPU performance, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivered 26% faster single-core performance and about 24% better performance in multi-core workloads.
By the way, during the event, Qualcomm announced that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is 20% and 17% faster in single-core and multi-core tasks, respectively, compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The new Oryon v3 CPU inside the 8 Elite Gen 5 is also 35% more power-efficient.
Since the 8 Elite Gen 5 features the latest 3rd-gen Oryon CPU cores clocked at a mighty 4.61GHz, the chipset has performed exceptionally well. That's not to say that the older Snapdragon 8 Elite is slower, but the next-gen 8 Elite Gen 5 takes the CPU performance a notch higher, surpassing even laptop-grade processors.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite: Specs Comparison
The latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor is manufactured on TSMC's refined 3nm (N3P) process node, while the older 8 Elite is fabricated on TSMC's 3nm (N3E) node. Both chipsets feature eight Oryon CPU cores, but the 8 Elite Gen 5 brings the newer 3rd-gen Oryon cores.
In addition, the Adreno 840 GPU on the 8 Elite Gen 5 goes up to 1.2GHz, up from 8 Elite's 1.1GHz. According to Qualcomm, the new Adreno 840 GPU improves the graphics performance by 23% while drawing 20% less power. There is also a new Snapdragon X85 5G modem on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
