Apple is reportedly aiming to unveil its long-rumoured smart glasses at WWDC 2027 next June, according to a new report. The device, widely referred to as "Apple Glasses," though Apple hasn't confirmed an official name, is expected to skip built-in displays in favour of a lighter, AI-assistant-driven design.
The report, published in Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, suggests that the glasses run on Apple's upgraded, AI-powered Siri, positioning them as a rival to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Moreover, it could also take the fight to the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Glasses, which pair a Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset with built-in Gemini AI support.
Previewing the hardware at WWDC 2027 would give developers an early runway to build integrations ahead of a public release, expected by late 2027.
While Gurman didn't reveal any other details, he suggests a major factor in pushing the release window from late 2026 to late 2027 is the brand's ongoing effort to resolve privacy concerns.

Apple Is Working on Navigating Privacy Hurdles
Historically, smart glasses with cameras have faced public backlash and regulatory pushback. To avoid these pitfalls, Apple is seemingly exploring several unorthodox hardware and software configurations.
One prototype reported eliminates the cameras, whereas another retains the lenses but restricts them from capturing photos and videos. Instead, the cameras would function exclusively as environmental sensors, feeding real-world visual data directly to on-device AI for object and local recognition.
The approach shares DNA with Apple's Visual Intelligence features on iPhones and upcoming camera-equipped AirPods. Besides, the tech giant is also prototyping a suite of unannounced privacy safeguards for its glasses.
Aspreviously reported by Gurman, Apple's smart glasses shipments could be delayed to Q1 2028. This variant will ditch the built-in displays and will function as smart everyday wear. Depending on the final privacy route Apple chooses, users are expected to be able to capture media, take phone calls, stream music, and interact hands-free with Siri.
