After the ColorOS 17 China debut last month, the brand has launched the Android 17-based update in India now. The latest ColorOS iteration introduces a refreshed interface, smoother animations, new AI features and performance improvements.
Most importantly, it marks an important shift for OnePlus and Realme users, as the two brands are transitioning their software experiences to Oppo's ColorOS platform.

ColorOS 17: What's New
The biggest highlight of ColorOS 17 is its new Fluid Design language, which gives the interface a translucent, glass-like appearance. Oppo has redesigned several interface elements and added smoother transitions, elastic animations and more responsive touch feedback.

Elements such as buttons and sliders can stretch or compress when interacted with before bouncing back into place, giving the interface a more dynamic feel.
The update also introduces a floating, pill-shaped navigation bar that extends across several system apps. It can display ongoing background activities in interactive capsules, making it easier to access relevant information without switching between apps. The redesigned interface also extends to system apps such as Files, Photos, Notes and Phone Manager.

Under the hood, ColorOS 17 introduces two new performance engines: Aurora Engine and Tidal Engine. The Aurora Engine handles rendering and animations, with Oppo claiming that it reduces app startup and runtime memory usage by 25% and the rendering workload by 30%.

Meanwhile, the Tidal Engine focuses on resource scheduling and background app management. According to Oppo, it improves background app retention stability by 55.6% and makes scrolling in third-party apps up to 50% faster.
Other ColorOS 17 features include AI-assisted photo editing features such as portrait fill light and AI tools for Notes, as well as office-related tasks. There are AI-generated inspiration themes to make use of as well.
The update also expands the software's AI capabilities with features such as live call translation and AI Call Anti-Fraud, which are designed to identify potentially fraudulent calls.
