Earlier this year, Google launched the AI Studio app for Android, which brought vibe coding to phones. Now, Google is taking it a step further with the October 2026 Google Play Store update, allowing users to build their own Android apps with AI and run them directly on their devices.
Google Play Will Let You Build Personal Apps with AI
In an official blog post, Google has revealed that users can now use Google AI Studio to build a custom Android app and run it on their own device through Google Play. There is no need for a developer account. A standard Google account is enough.

Google says that these personal apps stay private and don’t show up in the public Play Store catalogue. In the coming months, Google will also let users share them with a close circle of friends and family. If they want to share their app with everyone, they will need to move to a professional developer account.
The app will then go through the same Trust & Safety reviews as any other app on the Play Store. The feature is rolling out starting today in select markets, including the US, for users aged 18 and above. Google hasn’t confirmed whether India is one of them.
