Last year, Google added real-time captions to Gemini Live so users could read Gemini’s spoken replies on screen. However, there is still no easy way to stop Gemini from talking out loud. Now, Google seems to be fixing that with a redesigned Gemini Live interface.
According to an APK teardown by Android Authority, the new Gemini Live UI is hidden inside version 17.65.17 of the Google app. The publication managed to enable it before Google’s official rollout.
Starting with the bottom pill, it still shows a waveform when users speak, but the animation is different from the current one. Moving on, a new speaker button now sits near the top-right corner of the screen. It will most likely let users mute Gemini’s voice replies.

In Gemini's current implementation, getting text-only replies requires a workaround. Users will have to turn on captions and then mute their phone or lower its volume. That mutes everything else on the phone as well. A dedicated mute button fixes this, letting users quietly read Gemini’s answers in a meeting or on the metro.
That said, Google hasn’t announced a release date yet. The build mentioned in the report is unfinished and the publication notes that the interface doesn’t respond to queries yet. Also, keep in mind that features found in APK teardowns can change before release, and some never launch at all. Till then, check out our list of the best Gemini features on Android.
