HMD Global has unveiled the HMD Fuse, a smartphone specifically made for children. The unique selling point of the Fuse is its ability to keep harmful content away to promote children's online safety and it does so by using a clever feature. Here's a quick rundown of all the details.
HMD Fuse Specifications and Features
The HMD Fuse features a 6.56-inch HD+ 90 Hz LCD panel with 600 nits of peak brightness. It's powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, which is an octa-core chipset made on TSMC's 4 nm process.

The device features 6 GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB UFS 2.2 storage, which is expandable to up to 1 TB with a microSD card. The phone runs Android 15 out of the box. Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery that can charge at 33W.
Camera-wise, there's a dual-camera setup with a 108 MP rear camera coupled with a 2 MP depth snapper with an LED flash. The front camera is a 50 MP unit. There's a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and the device features an IP54 rating for protection against splashes of water and dust.
HMD is marketing the Fuse as a "Phone that grows with your kids," and that's because it can block children from filming or sending nude content. It also prevents them from seeing and saving sexual content, including livestreams and does so using a feature called HarmBlock+.

HarmBlock+ uses HarmBlock AI from SafeToNet, a firm that focuses on protecting children from harm online. HarmBlock AI runs completely on-device and has been trained on over 22 million images for effective identification and blocking of nude content. The AI is app-agnostic.
The HMD Fuse is a part of HMD's The Better Phone Project, where the firm takes feedback from parents and children. The same indicated that there was a need for a device that can be as safe as it can be functional, which led to the development of HMD Fuse.
