The wait is officially over as the Honor Robot Phone has finally launched in China. Showcased back at the CES 2026 event in January, this is the world's first full-fledged consumer-grade smartphone featuring a mechanical, self-aware camera that can move all on its own.

Honor Robot Phone Comes with a 200 MP Robotic Camera

The main highlight of the Honor Robot Phone is undoubtedly its motorised robotic gimbal camera and arm. Honor has collaborated with ARRI, a brand known for its Cinema-grade camera tech, to bring the smartphone to life.

The phone features a single manoeuvrable 200 MP camera module, fitted inside a 4DoF gimbal system. The lens uses a 1/1.28-inch sensor, featuring an f/1.6 aperture and PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) super-large aperture integration.

This is the same tech that the professional-grade DJI Ronin 4D 4-axis 6K Camera uses, which costs upwards of $4,999 (approximately Rs 5 lakhs). However, the tech has been miniaturised to fit inside the chassis of the Honor Robot Phone. This is the industry's smallest 4DoF gimbal camera system ever.

What makes this even more special is that the mounted gimbal camera uses a free-flowing mechanical arm to pivot and move. Since the camera is motorised, it can perform actions like tracking subjects, scanning objects and even perform playful actions like waving or interacting with its surroundings.

For this, Honor has re-engineered the overall pivot and mechanism system of high-end cameras to fit inside a smartphone body. The arm utilises 2800Mpa high-performance materials engineered with 0.001mm simulation accuracy for extreme durability and precision.

The free-flow movement is controlled by a custom-designed miniature micro motor that has been shrunk by up to 70%.

Moving on, another thing that makes the Honor Robot Phone special is the infusion of AI with the gimbal hardware. The brand says that the smartphone features a dedicated AI multi-modal brain, which helps it gain "hands and feet" to perform various autonomous actions.

Honor claims that, using AI, the robot can identify sounds, track motions and maintain visual awareness for natural sensory interactions. The phone can help users record videos with robot-grade motion control and framing.

The phone also responds to user inputs with expressive gestures like nods and head shakes. The gimbal-mounted camera can even respond to music beats and mimic dancing.
