Huawei is reportedly gearing up to launch its second-generation tri-fold, the Huawei Mate XT 2, later this year. The brand's upcoming foldable smartphone has now appeared in fresh leaks originating from China, which detail its improved specifications like the durability enhancements, battery life and more.

According to user Ultradimensional on Weibo, the Mate XT 2 could be tentatively scheduled for an October 2026 launch in China. The smartphone is expected to debut alongside the upcoming Mate 90 series, and the overall timeline also aligns with Huawei's previous foldable smartphones.

The spotlight is on what's changing under the hood. Huawei is reportedly addressing the battery life issue by packing in a bigger 6,000mAh battery. This would be a decent jump from the 5,600mAh cell found in the previous generation. Driving the internals could be a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset.
We don't know much about this processor yet, but industry insiders suggest the processor will heavily focus on accelerating on-device artificial intelligence. On the optics front, the leak claims the camera array will also be upgraded. The Mate XT 2's cameras could get a huge upgrade to match the higher-end Mate X & series.

However, the most important change to look out for is the upgrades to durability. The tipster notes that Huawei has made significant strides in its hinge technology, and the new mechanism is designed to be better. For starters, it may manage the folding stress better and reduce the visible crease alongside the expanded display.
Aesthetically, though, the smartphone is expected to arrive in a diverse set of colours, with potential options being Mystic Black, Auspicious Red, Crimson Purple and Bright White. With months to go for the launch, more information about the Mate XT 2 should be gradually revealed, so stay tuned!
