Instagram will soon roll out the ability to rearrange photos in the profile grid, letting users move their photos around to achieve a cleaner profile page. The platform is known to arrange all the content chronologically, but that's changing with the feature. This allows users to control the aesthetic of their profile page.
Grid Reordering Arrives on Instagram
The announcement arrives from the official Instagram X account, which shared a video of the feature in action. This demonstration shows us how long-pressing on one of the images on the profile grid gives users an option to reorder the grid. It appears just above the adjust preview tool.

Once users select this, they are taken to a different page where they can drag and drop their images beside, above or below the other images to reorder them. However, it is expected that the grid will still respect the previously-pinned posts at the top of the profile.
Giving users complete control over their profile's appearance could be extremely helpful for those with complex upload schedules. Those who like designing their feeds with multiple pictures that form a single big picture can breathe a sigh of relief as they can now post all pictures at once without worrying about the orientation and rearrange all the pictures later.
That said, not many folks under the announcement post seemed happy about the feature. Their number one complaint was about how the Instagram grid reordering feature kills the point of the default newest to oldest order that the platform has stuck to for years, essentially breaking the concept of time sorting.
The announcement post says the feature will roll out starting this week, which means users might get it before June 13, 2026. Those excited about the reordering feature can keep an eye out for updates on the Play Store and App Store. We hope this won't be a feature limited to the Instagram Plus subscription, though.
