Summary

  • Apple could reportedly pack a small 2,900mAh battery inside the upcoming iPhone 17 Air.
  • This battery is expected to come with a steel casing for better heat dissipation and structural resistance.
  • The iPhone 17 Air alongside the rest of the lineup could also feature new battery adhesives to make replacements easier.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air as its slimmest offering in the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. There have already been a ton of leaks and rumours regarding its design, camera and colours and now a new report provides a glimpse of the battery unit that's going to be inside the iPhone 17 Air.

Prominent leaker Majin Bu has shared images of the alleged battery pack of the iPhone 17 Air. From the looks of it, the battery pack has a metal casing and a mostly rectangular shape with a small L-shaped cutout at one of the corners. It appears adequately thin for a device that's going to boast a thickness of just 5.5mm

The metal casing could potentially be made of steel, the same material that was previously seen on the iPhone 16 Pro models. Bu notes that Apple may have went with steel because of its structural resistance, better heat dissipation and easier integration with the L-shaped design required to make room for the iPhone 17 Air's smaller logic board.

If its appearance wasn't good enough for a clue, the source mentions that the battery inside the metal casing could amount to somewhere around 2,900mAh. It's in line with a recent rumour from Instant Digital who mentioned that the iPhone 17 Air's battery could be lower than 3,000mAh. If this turns out to be true, iPhone 17 Air could feature a battery that's smaller than that of the iPhone 13, which released in 2021.

The report also reiterates that this battery casing will come equipped with new battery adhesives across the iPhone 17 lineup. This will ensure easier replacement of battery units on the upcoming phones.

The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to come with a titanium frame, something that may be absent on this Pro models. We hope to hear more about the lineup as we approach the iPhone 17 launch event in early September 2025
