Alongside the Lava Virat Curve 5G launch in India, the smartphone brand has also debuted its latest Android-16-based OS skin, Lava Neo UI. This brings the biggest refresh to the software of Lava phones, with a modern UI, updated features and new Vayu AI capabilities.
Lava Neo UI Brings a Frosted Look to the UI
The biggest change to Lava phones with Neo UI is how the UI now looks. Lava has introduced a unified theming system, which can change system icons uniformly via a single settings page. The changes will apply to icons on the home screen and the app drawer.

Next, with Neo UI, the brand is introducing a new Living Canvas feature that places a large clock on the lock screen with an animated background. The implementation is similar to the Live Clock feature on OnePlus phones. At the time of writing, it is unclear if Living Canvas will support seamless transition between AOD and the lock screen.
Moving on, the Quick Settings panel in Neo UI is also getting a makeover. Lava has introduced a Liquid Glass-like frosted look throughout the Quick Settings panel to offer a tinted and translucent look.

The same frosted look is carried forward to the stock Camera app on Lava phones. However, the UI layout appears to be the same as the current Android 16-based OS skin. Aside from that, Lava has tweaked the look of the app drawer in Neo UI and has also refreshed the design of the home screen setup.

Neo UI Debuts Frames Native Gallery App for Lava Phones
Aside from design changes, one major addition to Lava Neo UI is the new Frames app. This is the first time Lava has designed a native gallery app for its phones, giving users flexibility between Google Photos and the Frames app.

Frames Gallery app brings on-device AI features that Lava says can "automatically organise your photos into meaningful categories". The brand has also embedded natural language models to help users search inside the gallery app.
It also offers a full-fledged editing suite, bringing access to photos and video editing right inside the Frames app. Users will be able to crop images, edit videos, apply filters, change image orientation, use markup tools and more inside the Frames app.

Currently, Neo UI is limited to the brand-new Lava Virat Curve 5G smartphone. However, the brand has confirmed that the new OS skin will roll out to other Lava phones later on. No official timeline has been shared at the time of writing.
