Xiaomi has finally launched the Redmi Note 17 5G in India and this year's upgrade takes the series in a different direction. Instead of doubling down on camera hardware, it prioritises battery life while also refreshing the design, packing in a large OLED display and shipping with Android 16 out of the box.
Redmi Note 17 5G Specifications and Features
Right off the bat, the Redmi Note 17 5G looks nothing like its last-gen model, the Redmi Note 15 5G. Instead of the familiar centre-aligned squircle camera deco design, the new model features a standard squircle camera island design.
This also translates to a loss in the number of cameras, as the Note 17 5G features only a single rear 50 MP lens, compared to the dual 108 MP + 8 MP setup on the Note 15. The Redmi Note 17 5G has also ditched the curved design of the Note 15 for a boxier look with a flat frame, back and rounded R-corners.
Aside from design, the Redmi Note 17 5G brings a 6.9-inch Full HD+ OLED panel. This makes the Indian variant's panel 0.1 inches smaller than the true 7-inch display on the China-launched Redmi Note 17.
The phone also champions battery with an 8,000mAh capacity, which is a massive jump over the predecessor's 5,520mAh unit. However, it retains the 45W fast charging support.
Under the hood, a toned-down Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset powers the phone, in comparison to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 powering the Redmi Note 15.
