Summary

  • The latest IDC report suggests Samsung continues to dominate the Indian tablet market with a 41.3% market share.
  • Samsung managed to ship almost roughly 9 lakh units of Galaxy Tab in India in the first half of 2025 itself.
  • Despite Samsung emerging at the top, the overall tablet market in India saw a 32.2% Year-on-Year decline in H1 2025.

The latest report from International Data Corporation (IDC) has given us a good glimpse at how India's tablet market performed in the first six months of 2025. Samsung has emerged as the MVP (Most Valuable Player), with a 41.3% overall market share in H1 2025.

According to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker 2025 report, Samsung has been the leading vendor of tablets in India, holding 40.8% of the market share. The brand has reportedly managed to sell an estimated 8,86,000 Galaxy Tab units (almost 9 lakh tablets) within the first six months of 2025.

Samsung's tablets are highly sought after both in the commercial space and in terms of the end-user offering. IDC states that the brand led both these spaces with 47.9% and 37.6% market shares, respectively.

With programs like Galaxy Empowered and Samsung Smart School, the brand has actively worked with the Government of India, especially the Education Ministry, to bring its Galaxy tablets into the hands of public sector students and educators free of cost.

The brand also launched a drive back in February 2025 to upskill more than 20,000 educators in India by providing training and resources (Galaxy Tabs) at no cost to drive quality education within the country. Such initiatives helped the brand become a major player in India's Android tablet market.

Apart from this, with regular offers, launches and an aggressive push towards e-commerce presence, Samsung managed to sell a lot of Galaxy Tabs in India via platforms like Flipkart and Amazon.

Trailing Samsung were Lenovo, Apple, Xiaomi, and Acer, with market shares of 12.3%, 11.8%, 11.4%, and 9.1%, respectively, in H1 2025.

The consumer tablet segment continues to show strong momentum in India. Online channels outpaced offline growth, driven by exclusive product launches, cashback incentives, and EMI options, while brand-owned stores and regional retail chains also played a key role in expanding volumes. Growth was further bolstered by shifting consumer preferences, including increased demand for larger screen sizes, stylus-supported models, and affordable entry-level devices, all of which contributed to a strong performance during the quarter.

However, despite the surge in the demand for tablets in India, the overall market declined by 32.2% Year-on-Year (YoY) in the first half of 2025. The market experienced a downturn of 9.9% from the 42.1% YoY performance in 2024.

IDC claims that this decline in H1 2025 is "largely attributed to a drop in commercial shipments, primarily driven by a reduction in government-funded manifesto programs, which historically represent a significant portion of the commercial segment."
