Summary

  • Samsung has officially shown off its debut triple folding Tri-Fold phone.
  • It will feature a single outer screen with a dual inward folding mechanism and two hinges.
  • The device will reportedly launch by the end of 2025 with a yet-to-be-confirmed name.

It is finally official! After months of leaks, rumours and speculations, Samsung has finally lifted the curtain off of its debut Tri-Fold phone. While the smartphone is still a long way from launching, this is the first time the South Korean brand has actually shown off the foldable in all its glory.

This is the first official look at the Samsung Tri-Fold

At the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in South Korea today, Samsung unveiled its first-ever triple-folding smartphone. The Tri-Fold was showcased behind a secure glass cage and no one was allowed to hold the smartphone. Samsung even had a holographic projection of the folding mechanism of the Tri-Fold.

As it had been revealed multiple times earlier, the Samsung Tri-Fold will have a dual hinge folding mechanism where the big 10-inch display folds twice inward to reveal a 6.5-inch main outer display. The smartphone has a single punch-hole selfie camera on the folding display located in the top-right corner.

Other than that, the display is surrounded by uniform and somewhat thick bezels. As for the back design, it is still under wraps. Samsung has not officially shown it off. However, based on a previous Galaxy Tri-Fold One UI 8 design leak, we know that the foldable will feature a triple rear camera setup within a pill-shaped island.

The official showcase was covered by the South Korean tech publication Chosun Tech and it has revealed that given the complexity of the smartphone's design and hinge mechanism, the Galaxy Tri-Fold will easily cost 3 million won (approximately Rs 1,85,000) minimum.

As for the official launch date, there is no word on that yet. A previous Samsung Tri-Fold launch timeline leak revealed an end-of-2025 debut window. Moreover, in an official statement to SamMobile, Samsung has revealed that the Tri-Fold showcases the brand's continued efforts in R&D and it plans to let fans experience its tri-fold innovation by 2025 itself. So, given that we are already nearing the end of the month of October, it is very likely that it will launch either in November or December 2025.

As for the device's specifications, it is very possible that the tri-fold could feature the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip as that of the Galaxy Fold 7. Other than that, leaks hint at the Samsung Tri-Fold build quality to be premium. The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold could also ship with Android 6-based One UI 8 out of the box and bring a new split trio feature to let the Tri-Fold run up to three apps on the main screen.
