WhatsApp is seemingly developing a new feature that will allow users to generate detailed conversation summaries of unread chats. This new feature will be part of the suit of Meta AI tools and features that are gradually making its way to the messaging platform.
As per WABetaInfo, this new feature, dubbed quick chat recaps, will roll out to users as an optional functionality that can be enabled by turning on the Private Processing toggle. This new feature is part of the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.12 update, which is now available on the Google Play Store.
For those unaware, Private Processing is part of Meta's secure data processing architecture that ensures that Meta AI is able to perform different tasks and action, all the while ensuring the privacy of the user. The generated data is neither visible to Meta nor is shared with third-party vendors.

So, the quick chat recaps feature will also leverage Meta AI to function. As it is evident in the above screenshot, once live, users will be able to select up to five unread chats and enable the feature for them via the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
Once selected, the Meta AI overlay window will cover the bottom half of the screen with a detailed summary of all the unread chats within the selected conversations. Now, this might sound similar to the Meta-AI powered message summaries functionality that is also coming to WhatsApp. However, unlike that, where users will need to visit each direct message individually to generate an individual chat summary, the Quick Recap toggle will eliminate that very need.
This will make the catch-up process easier on the platform, where users can simply scroll through long threaded messages and chats and still be on top of them without even needing to view every single message.
Also, since this feature is part of Meta's Private Processing as mentioned before, quick recap will generate results on the device and the generated data will neither be visible to Meta nor to any other user on the platform and third-party vendors.
With that said, the quick chat recaps feature is currently rolling out to the beta users of WhatsApp on Android, meaning users on the stable version will have to wait a few more weeks. There is no news regarding the feature making it to WhatsApp users on iOS. However, given the platform's history, it will most likely roll out to all users on both platforms eventually.
